HARD RESET: 5 LIFE-CHANGING SKILLS TO ADOPT NOW!
Dear Queens,
It is time to hit the reset button and also adopt a few life-changing skills.
It’s impossible to count the number of times I’ve heard the word ‘pandemic’ and ‘unprecedented’ in the last 2 weeks. Billions of lives have been disrupted in a bid to contain the COVID-19 spread. I’m sure after a dramatic 2019, this is definitely not the 2020 we all signed up for.
I don’t know about you but I had epic plans, not just for 2020 but for the entire decade. I was (and I’m still) so sure this was my decade, it was my time and I was ready.
Don’t get me wrong the dream is still picture-perfect but it’s hard to look away when a virus has turned the ENTIRE WORLD on its head.
This moment in history will be remembered for the tremendous, earth-shattering effects way down to our lifestyles.
A virus has made being home cool again, suddenly home-cooked meals are so nourishing and comforting. We are starting to notice or even realize who our neighbors are. In fact, some of us are actually just starting to really see and acknowledge our spouses, children or family members.
And if things weren’t weird enough, we now have to suspect everybody, including ourselves.
I guess in all, these are very humbling times and more importantly defining times for us all.
One thing is certain, we will beat this but our lives will never be the same. So here are five (5) life-changing skills, we could adopt this period, that would change our lives forever:
1. Leadership: Let me just say now, that this is going to be a recurrent theme over here at HWHQ. A simple Google search on Leadership will display a million and one quotes on what it means and how to be a great one.
Here, I’ll just offer a simple version to say, its simply taking charge. Leadership is a term that is mostly associated with the corporate world or politics but whether its a task, situation, opportunities or even emotions, it is what housewives do daily.
The call to action this time is for us to ‘Lead Intentionally’. Waking up with the mindset of a leader will greatly impact how we handle day-to-day activities with ease and tact. Simply put, ‘you make things happen vs things happening around you. Also, adopting this skill is essential not just for uncertain times like these, but for every day.
2. Distraction Management: In other words, staying focused. Focus comes from prioritizing your time and how you spend it. It also involves evaluating life to determine what and who matters in it, producing and preserving only the positive energy around you.
3. Total Wellness: I like to think of this as being ‘War-Ready’. The statement “we are what we eat” has never been more relevant. Now is a good time to add immune-boosting foods, subtract anything Doctor won’t approve or recommend, and/or divide potions.
Exercise is something we often overlook, we could start or add some routines to our daily or weekly activities.
The third part of this is your mind, this is your engine room. This is where all transformation or habit adoption starts from. The most important lesson we can learn now is that each day is a gift, so take some time to pray, meditate, reflect and/or journal daily.
Finally, we must take time to rest, give the engine a break. We know exactly how our appliances function when operated nonstop without break. The very same applies to us, we must rest and just like leadership, we must be very intentional about rest.
Let us take everything pertaining to our nutrition, physical fitness, mind as a gift and investment to our own selves, every day could be your birthday.
4. Patience: Knowing things won’t go as planned or that when they do we may not understand them all points in one direction, give yourself the gift of patience.
Resources like Amazon, Netflix and Google, have soaked us in the instant-gratification world, we no longer know how or want to wait. The truth is some things take much longer to figure out and that delivery may take longer than anticipated.
The same goes for our plans, dreams, and aspirations, we want everything to happen the minute they are conceived as thoughts. Be patient and watch the fabulous combination of time, effort and your beautiful mind, cook them to perfection and bring them to reality.
5. Thriving: This is the big picture! A combination of everything listed above. It is simple, every conscious moment, we must strive to thrive not just survive.
It is living with purpose and making decisions and taking actions that lead or contribute to that purpose. Being optimistic in confusing times and adapting with ease especially in situations beyond our control. It is cultivating a genuine love for humanity. Think of it as the sum of our actions that make us feel like we have contributed to the world.
It is so easy to be overwhelmed with all the news and just be filled with trepidation. Instead, let us use this time as a time for a hard reset and come out even stronger on the other side of COVID-19.
Love and Light,
Your Partner in Progress.
